15 rescued at Carolina Beach amid strong rip currents

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue has reported 15 rescues as of 4 p.m. Friday, as strong rip currents create dangerous conditions along the coast.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington posted the update, warning beachgoers of the hazardous surf conditions.

Beach officials are urging caution for anyone entering the water and advising swimmers to call 911 in an emergency.

Safety tips for rip currents

Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue recommends avoiding swimming where rip currents are present. If caught in a rip current, swim parallel to the shore until the pull stops, then swim back to shore. Swimmers unable to return to the beach should tread water and wave for lifeguard assistance…
