Wilmington City Council to consider $17.5M riverfront grant, rezoning of former hotel

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Wilmington City Council will consider a $17.5 million federal grant application for riverfront repairs and a rezoning proposal to convert a former hotel into affordable housing at its meeting on Tuesday, April 7.

The council will also vote on applying for $14 million from the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s FY 2025 Disaster Supplemental Grant Program for the Riverfront Bulkhead Replacement Project.

Riverfront repairs target closed section

A 500-foot segment of the riverfront between Princess Street and Chestnut Street is currently closed due to infrastructure degradation.

The project would replace failing infrastructure and reestablish a continuous waterfront corridor, according to city documents. The required local grant match of $3.5 million would be funded from remaining funds for the North Riverwalk Marina project…
