North Carolina lawmakers propose film industry incentive expansion

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – New legislation could make it more financially attractive for productions to shoot TV and movie projects in North Carolina after a rough couple of years for the state’s film industry.

Rep. Ted Davis filed House Bill 1116, which would raise the grant amounts for bigger projects. Senate Bill 1002, sponsored by Sen. Michael Lee, would also set aside money for smaller, micro-budget films.

The Senate bill would create a separate pool of money meant for smaller, independent projects. Lee said it’s designed to help “the small businesses” of film and would not require a distribution deal for a project to qualify…
