‘We stand together as a community’: Westborough marks Memorial Day

WESTBOROUGH — Moving past a rotary covered in American flags, dozens of Westborough veterans, first-responders, and Scouts marched to honor the nation’s fallen soldiers on May 25.

The units were led by Grand Marshal and Mill Pond School Principal Peter Guellnitz, a U.S. Army veteran. The streets were filled with residents proudly waving their flags.

At Mill Pond School prior to Memorial Day, Guellnitz had students think about people who have made a difference in their lives. He said one student told him they felt impacted by a classmate who asked if there was anything they could do when their friend appeared to be feeling down one day.

Though it was a “cute” answer, Guellnitz said that the more he thought about it, the more he was amazed.

“Imagine if adults acted like that all the time,” he told the crowd on West Main Street. “These children understood that the day is not only a day of remembrance, it is also a reminder of who we are when we stand together as a community.”…
