Central Mass. college’s abrupt closure was a ‘knife in the heart’ for faculty

A little before 11 a.m. on a cool Thursday in April, an email landed in the inboxes of Anna Maria College community members. That afternoon, there would be an all-college, in-person-only meeting.

Some employees skipped the meeting, not thinking much of it, and focused instead on registering students for next semester’s classes.

But Craig Blais, a tenured English professor, knew something was wrong.
