MARLBOROUGH – A major developer donated $224,000 to Marlborough on May 26 in an effort to assist with improving ballfields, maintaining trails, and planning a proposed fire station.
Ferris Development, which won a special permit from Marlborough last winter to develop a condominium complex on Lizotte Drive, agreed to contribute $100,000 designated for improvements to local ballfields; $50,000 for the expansion and enhancement of public trails; and $74,000 to support the development of the proposed West Side Fire Station. The funds for the fire station will be paid into the West Side Fire Station Mitigation Stabilization Fund prior to building permits being issued.
Mayor J. Christian Dumas accepted the funds on behalf of the city but emphasized that the City Council gets the credit for shepherding the Ferris project through the permitting process.
