NORTHBOROUGH – “Looking forward to not talking about this dam anymore.”
That’s how DPW Director Scott Charpentier concluded his presentation on Article 33 on April 28, as Northborough residents overwhelmingly (120-5) voted to appropriate $250,000 to help remove a dam on the Northborough Reservoir.
Though the reservoir is technically located within the borders of Shrewsbury – and Boylston, to some extent – Northborough owns the land and is obliged to remove or repair the dam. Since the reservoir is no longer used for drinking water and can become a liability, the town has opted for removal, applying for a grant in 2023 to fund 80 percent of design and permitting costs…
