Man Sentenced for Drug Trafficking & Illegal Firearms in Maine

A 40-year-old man was sentenced to more than 1 year in prison for drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession in Maine.

Sentenced for Illegal Firearms Possession and Drug Trafficking

Jonathon Bethune was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing cocaine with intent to distribute, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

Man Sentenced to 1 Year and 1 Month in Prison

He was given 111 months with three years supervised release. He pled guilty to the charges on January 7, 2025.

Search Warrant Executed at Residence

Bethune (aka “Lord Smitty”) from Webster, Massachusetts was taken into custody after a search warrant was executed at his residence by the Homeland Security Investigations.

Agents Seized Loaded Pistol, Cocaine and Cash

“From a safe, agents recovered a loaded pistol, several baggies of cocaine, approximately 159 grams of cocaine, and $6,820 in cash,” according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

More Firearms Seized from Home

Additional firearms were also found and seized at his residence.

Convicted Felon Illegally in Possession of a Firearm

“Bethune possessed the pistol to protect himself, his drugs, and his drug proceeds. Bethune was a convicted felon at the time and therefore prohibited from possessing firearms,” said court records…
