SELCO gives community behind-the-scenes look at headquarters

SHREWSBURY – Shrewsbury Electric & Cable Operations (SELCO) has powered the community for decades.

And, likewise, the community has powered SELCO.

As a community-owned utility provider, SELCO focuses on providing value for Shrewsbury – not shareholders. To showcase its commitment to the town, the organization held its fourth annual Open House on June 25, inviting the community to Municipal Drive to see what public power (and cable) is all about.

“We are a community-focused organization. It’s always important to let folks see the team behind the work we do. It’s building that connection with the community,” said SELCO General Manager Christopher Roy. “I think it’s that peek behind the curtain – we have really nice employees that are nice people.”

The Open House took some liberties – SELCO employees aren’t usually feasting on freshly-popped popcorn, visiting the Uhlman’s Ice Cream truck, or chasing around mascots from the Worcester Red Sox and Worcester Railers. When you factor in the bounce houses, visits from firefighters, and green screen fun from Shrewsbury Media Connection, it certainly wasn’t a normal day at work at SELCO headquarters…
