Now you see it: Vanishing murals raise eyebrows, questions at bar site

Worcester has no shortage of memorable murals, but the sea serpent that adorned the wall of the former Dive Bar on the corner of Green Street and Temple Street was among the most striking, and a favorite of many Worcester residents.

The mural, painted by local artist Scott Boilard for the 2017 Pow! Wow! Worcester mural festival, outlived the 2019 closing of the Dive Bar, and the short life of the bar that subsequently occupied that space, The Sundown, which closed in 2025.

So, naturally, locals were a little shocked to see that the mural was recently painted over. The appearance soon after of the logo for the Corner Bar, which is set to have its grand opening at that location on Aug. 7, didn’t cause much concern, but what can arguably be described as parody of the Worcester Red Sox mascot on the wall caused a small internet frenzy…
