GRAFTON – Like many towns across Massachusetts, Grafton is considering allowing on-site consumption of marijuana. On July 21, Annette Garcia – the public health director for Shrewsbury, Grafton, and West Boylston – led the Select Board in a discussion about potential options going forward.
Three types of permits could be offered in Grafton. A “supplemental permit” would allow existing marijuana facilities to offer on-site consumption (a lounge next to the sales floor, for instance). A “hospitality license” would allow non-cannabis-related businesses to have a designated area for on-site consumption (a movie theater selling marijuana). A third type of license would allow marijuana at weddings or music festivals.
There are a couple limits: alcohol and tobacco may not be sold where there is marijuana. And Grafton has a say in all of this: the town may elect to create permitting structures, agreements with dispensaries, or other procedures…
