Rain and thunderstorm chances return Monday night and persist through much of the week as a stalled frontal boundary keeps the Massachusetts region unsettled.
The backdoor cold front swept south of the Massachusetts coast by approximately 8 a.m. Monday, ushering in drier air and clearing skies across the region. Behind the front, light north to northeast winds are developing, which will hold temperatures cooler than recent days across eastern Massachusetts. Inland areas, including Springfield and Central Massachusetts, should see temperatures run similar to or slightly higher than Sunday, benefiting from more sunshine away from the onshore flow.
By Monday night, conditions will deteriorate from west to east. Rain chances increase after midnight. Some embedded thunderstorms are possible overnight as the frontal boundary pushes back into the region.
