WESTBOROUGH – When Caleb Polseno, a sergeant with the Westborough Police Department, clocked in for his shift on August 27, he never thought he would have to rescue a newborn calf.
On August 22, one of the cows at Nourse Farm in Westborough gave birth to a healthy calf. During a daily rotation through the pasture two days later, David Nourse, who operates the farm, said he noticed that the calf was not with her mother. A search started for the calf.
“It’s not uncommon for a calf to be left behind when we are moving cattle from one side of the pasture to the other,” he said. “We did find her, but before we could grab her, she sprinted off into the woods.”
The search continued, but after several hours with no luck, Nourse said he reported the calf missing to the Westborough Police Department. Another two days passed, and neighbors reported seeing a calf running around the area, but no one had been able to catch her…
