Two long-serving members of the Massachusetts State Police Mounted Unit have traded high-profile public safety duties for a quieter life at a New Hampshire horse sanctuary.
On Wednesday, October 14, Scotty, a Clydesdale/Hackney cross, and Andy, a Percheron/Thoroughbred cross, arrived at Elysium Acres Horse Sanctuary in Chester, their new forever home. The Massachusetts State Police announced the retirement, noting that the horses served the public with distinction for years alongside Troopers.
During their careers, Scotty and Andy fulfilled countless public safety missions. These included security posts at New England Patriots games and concerts at Gillette Stadium, patrols of state parks and beaches across Massachusetts, and crowd control at large venues and public events. They also worked major gatherings such as World Cup matches in Foxboro earlier this summer. Throughout their service, the horses helped protect the community, maintain peace, and keep people safe across the state.
