CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have arrested a Central Falls man accused of stabbing another man outside of a Cumberland grocery store Tuesday afternoon.
David Ayala, 26, has been charged with felony assault, possessing a prohibited weapon and disorderly conduct.
Officers rushed to the Stop & Shop on Mendon Road and were met by a man who was suffering from a significant laceration to his hand.
Investigators later learned Ayala stabbed the victim with a large knife, though it’s unclear why.
Ayala and the victim are familiar with one another and this was not a random act, according to police.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
