WORCESTER ― A Worcester business had its license revoked to sell tobacco products after allegations of repeat violations.
Mashriq Said, owner of Smoke & Talk 2 at 834 Main St., looked on with his attorney, Sean Murray, as the Worcester Board of Health voted 4-0 on Monday night to revoke the license.
It’s the second time the board took such a step in as many months. Last month, it voted 3-1 to terminate the license of Hedro’s Smoke Shop at 319 Grafton St. for allegedly selling a stun gun to an undercover police officer.
Murray told the board his client would not speak to the charges, and Murray declined comment immediately after the meeting.
The lawyer asked the board to suspend rather than terminate the license. He noted Said’s young age of 23, the fact that he financially supports his family, and that his client acknowledged his mistakes. The city public health department noted that this was the third time Said’s store had illegally sold flavored tobacco products, and that the city is regularly in touch with retailers to remind them of local laws and what tobacco products they’re allowed to sell.
