Winners lose out: Amount of casino winnings seized by state rose in ’23

SPRINGFIELD – Winning gamblers at MGM Springfield who owed unpaid child support and state tax debts saw about $557,000 of those winnings seized by the state in 2023. That’s part of $3.7 million in seized winnings by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue at all three of the state’s casinos, a figure detailed Thursday at a meeting of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. That statewide number was up about $235,000 from $3.5 million in 2022.
