WORCESTER — The City Council on Tuesday is expected to consider a tax exemption for a plan to convert the longtime Fallon Health headquarters into apartments.
The City Council will also hear a petition to allow tents for the homeless on public property and receive drug trafficking and firearms data Tuesday.
From Fallon Health to housing
City Manager Eric D. Batista has submitted a request to review a tax increment exemption plan for the One Chestnut Place housing project at 22 Elm St., currently the headquarters of Fallon Health.
In November, the health insurance organization announced it will move to the One Mercantile building on the other side of Main Street in late 2024.
The 11-story building at One Chestnut Place and an abutting four-story building were purchased by Boston-based Synergy Investments last year.
One Chestnut Place, a block from Main Street, was constructed in 1990 at a cost of $33 million, while the stone Two Chestnut Place dates to the 1920s and was once home of Worcester Federal Savings .
