State police recruits, classmates of Enrique Delgado-Garcia, among mourners at Worcester wake

WORCESTER — A stream of family, friends and law enforcement officers entered Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel Friday for the calling hours of Enrique Delgado-Garcia, the state police recruit who died from injuries suffered at the training academy. The Worcester resident, 25, due to graduate in two weeks, became unconscious during an exercise involving boxing. Among the expected mourners were lawyers and staff members from the Worcester County Courthouse, where Delgado-Garcia was a victim-witness advocate before pursuing a career with the state police. A funeral at Mercadante and burial at Notre Dame Cemetery are slated for Saturday.
