Grafton’s Murphy embarks on journey that will see him attempt 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days

For Bill Murphy of Grafton next month, it’s all about sevens.

Murphy, no stranger to mega-distance challenges as a veteran of Ironman triathlons and even marathons on crutches, is taking on The Great World Race.

This can be considered the 21st century version of “Around the World in 80 Days.” Remember, the magic number here is seven — as in 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days.

7-7-7 always is a big winner in the slots in Vegas, and Murphy will make that combo pay off for Make-A-Wish, which grants life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

“I need to do this for the greater good,” said Murphy, a branch manager for Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation. “Here’s a good chance to provide a silver lining to a bad year.”

Murphy notes it’s been a challenging year for the housing market, with high interest rates and limited inventory. The Fed has started to bring down the prime rate in the past month. “It’s nice that it’s improved a little bit, but I’m still not having a career year.”
