Police: Driver injured in crash on Interstate 290 in Worcester has died

WORCESTER ― A Worcester man involved in a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Interstate 290 has died from his injuries, according to the state police.

Joseph Bitar, 38, is the name of the victim, according to the state police.

Shortly before 1 p.m., state police from the Holden barracks responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-290 east, near Southbridge Street in Worcester.

Bitar, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, sustained serious injuries. Worcester Fire and EMS responded to the scene.

Due to the investigation, the right and middle lanes were closed, as well as the on ramp at Southbridge Street. Traffic lanes were reopened a few hours later.

The crash remains under investigation.
