WORCESTER — Despite the unseasonably warm temperatures of late, this time of the year has traditionally become the coldest time of the year for the city of Worcester.
On the fifth anniversary of the line-of-duty death of Lt. Jason Menard, the Worcester Fire Department will hold a memorial unveiling and dedication at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the McKeon Road Fire Station, 80 McKeon Road.
On Nov. 13, 2019, Menard died in a blaze on Stockholm Street.
On that day, Menard’s crew was called to a three-family house at 7 Stockholm St. Menard became trapped in the flames after helping another firefighter to a stairwell.
This time of year is difficult for city firefighters as they pause to remember fallen colleagues .
Dec. 3 will mark 25 years since fire filled the Worcester Cold Storage & Warehouse Co at Grafton and Franklin streets. Six firefighters died in the blaze: Lt. Thomas Spencer , 42, and Lt. James Lyons , 34, both of Worcester; and firefighters Paul Brotherton , 41, of Auburn; Lt. Timothy Jackson , 51, of Hopedale; Jeremiah Lucey , 38, of Leicester; and Joseph McGuirk , 38, of Worcester.
