A hot news item in the media earlier this year was the cicada emergence that occurred in the Midwest and Southeast. One of the big reasons for all of this coverage was the fact that the 13-year Brood XIX and 17-year Brood XIII were emerging at the same time and it was an event for the history books as that hadn’t occurred since 1803. While 2024 may be remembered for many things this year will certainly be remembered as an ultra-rare double-brood year.
