Renters: Mass. has five of the nation’s priciest ZIP codes

The nation’s most expensive area for apartments is a barrier island near Miami, where a one-bedroom will set you back $20,000 a month.

Massachusetts has five of the most expensive ZIP codes for renters in the nation, according to a study RentHop released Nov. 20.

The online rental marketplace ranked the Bay State as the fourth most expensive state for renters:

The Massachusetts ZIP codes that made the list were:

02110 – Boston’s Waterfront and Financial District

02210 – South Boston

02116 – Back Bay

02108 – Beacon Hill

02142 – Cambridge

One Boston ZIP code (02110) was named the ninth most expensive in the United States overall:

New York topped the list with 44 pricey ZIP codes:

California’s rental prices have cooled off, according to the study. The Los Angeles metro area had 15 of the nation’s most expensive ZIP codes in 2023. This year it had 11. In the city of Malibu, the median rent for a two-bedroom apartment will set you back $6,500.

Florida ranked third, with 15 ZIP codes. Fisher Island tops the list as the most expensive spot for renters in 2024. The median rent for a two-bedroom apartment here will cost you $25,000.
