A recent study from LendingTree reveals California narrowly avoided being named the state with the worst drivers in 2024. The online loan marketplace’s annual report ranked California 3rd, behind Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Researchers analyzed millions of insurance inquiries from November 2023 to November 2024, focusing on crashes, DUIs, speeding, and reckless driving citations. Massachusetts topped the list with 61.1 driving incidents per 1,000 drivers, while California saw 55.0 incidents. Despite missing the top spot, California’s driving record remains concerning, with high rates of accidents, DUIs, and unsafe driving behavior. Other states in the top 10 include the District of Columbia and New Jersey.
