SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The deadline to obtain a Real ID for Massachusetts residents is just now over 5 months away.
With the deadline approaching, the Massachusetts RMV is urging residents to apply for a REAL ID sooner rather than later, to avoid potential delays.
By May 7th of next year, those 18 years of age and older planning to board a flight in the US or enter certain federal facilities will need a Real ID. A Real ID is a driver’s license or ID that has a star in the upper right-hand corner. Appointments to upgrade to Real ID are available now. To prepare for an in-person vist at the RMV to get a Real ID you will need to get the right documents together.
You will need to show proof of your legal name, Social Security number, Massachusetts residency, and two forms of your address. In Massachusetts, the fee for a Real ID driver’s license or ID is $50 dollars, and the fee for upgrading to a Real ID card is $25 dollars.
