Wife, newborns of Rutland firefighter pass away

RUTLAND — The wife and newborn children of Rutland Firefighter Patrick Sullivan have passed away.

Ciara Sullivan, 30, and twins James and Elizabeth, born Dec. 16, were on life support following an emergency C-section.

The situation generated an outpouring of support from the Rutland community and firefighters from throughout the region. A vigil was held on Rutland Town Common Thursday evening.

Patrick has worked for the town for 13 years as a dispatch supervisor and, for two years, as a firefighter/EMT.

Early Saturday, he posted on Facebook:

Tonight has been horrible. James Michael and Elizabeth Joanne passed quietly and peacefully with their Mother Ciara Joanne. I can’t explain the total and utter devastation, anger, rage, and loss I feel that this unnecessary tragedy has brought me.

What I can explain is how truly blessed I am to have the outpouring of support from my community, my brothers, my family, and the hospital staff. The NICU and SICU nurses and doctors made this nightmare a little more bearable. If any of you see this by chance know that I truly love all of you and I will never be able to thank you enough for how incredible you treated my family.
