New Jersey Has Some of the Worst Drivers in America

The good news when it comes to driving is that Massachusetts is the state with the worst drivers according to a new report from Reader’s Digest. The bad news is that New Jersey is one of the Top 5 worst states when it comes to driving.

Here’s how all states rank, according to LendingTree, from worst to best, when it comes to the number of problematic incidents per 1,000 drivers.

  1. Massachusetts: 61.1 incidents
  2. Rhode Island: 60.6 incidents
  3. California: 55 incidents
  4. District of Columbia: 54.6 incidents
  5. New Jersey: 45.8 incidents
  6. North Carolina: 39.6 incidents
  7. Washington: 37.4 incidents
  8. Maryland: 34.9 incidents
  9. North Dakota: 34.7 incidents
  10. Utah: 32.1 incidents

Let’s be honest do you find this report surprising? If you have driven down the Garden State Parkway recently you might agree that some of the worst drivers are right here in New Jersey.

According to Reader’s Digest, “New Jersey drivers are the fifth worst in the nation, with 45.8 incidents per 1,000 drivers. The Garden State also ranks fifth for accidents (a rate of 30.4) and DUIs (a rate of 2.5). And it ties Massachusetts for speeding-related incidents, with a rate of 1.3.”
