Take a 60-second tour of Brockton’s new homeless shelter with studio apartments

BROCKTON — A project two decades and $20 million in the making will soon provide shelter, health care and permanent homes for folks who otherwise might be on the streets of Brockton or camping in the woods.

Crowds toured the 124 Manley St. development after the Jan. 24 ribbon cutting. It’s comprised of the Smith Family Housing Resource Center, which has 128 shelter beds and a day center, and Yawkey Hall, which provides 32 studio apartments. Brockton Neighborhood Health Center also has a clinic there.

A place to charge your phone and wash your clothes

One of the tour guides was Kim Kroeger, senior director of operations for Father Bill’s/MainSpring. Taking a group through the women’s dorm, currently full of empty bunk beds, she spotlighted features like charging stations for phones and a laundry. Lockers for the dorm are on the way but had not been installed yet…
