3 road crew workers struck, killed on I-91 off-ramp

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A 29-year-old West Springfield man has been arraigned after being charged with an early morning crash that killed three people on I-91.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said that a crew was working to repair damaged guardrails along I-91 north when, around 12:45 a.m., an SUV took Exit 10A off of I-91 north at “a very high rate of speed” and struck and killed the three men, who worked for Premiere Fencing Company of Canton. The SUV then flipped over and came to a rest in the middle of the exit ramp.

Local and state investigators learned that, after the crash, the driver got out of the SUV and fled in an unknown direction. After searching by air and on the ground, the driver was located and, after a brief conversation, “a chase ensued,” Gulluni explained. After being surrounded by law enforcement, the suspect was taken into custody near Morgan Road in West Springfield…
