An early morning blaze that heavily damaged a home in Gardner on Sunday and required the assistance to several area departments to contain.
The Gardner Fire Department was dispatched to a residential fire at 25 High St. at 3:19 a.m., according to officials. Arriving crews had fire showing from the attic and struck a second alarm, recalling off-duty city firefighters and bringing mutual aid from surrounding towns to the scene.
“Firefighters initially made an interior attack, stretching hose lines to the attic to try to control the fire,” said Gardner Fire Chief Greg Lagoy. “Heavy fire conditions forced them back and all crews were removed from the building, changing to an exterior attack to control the fire. Eventually, crews reentered the house to completely extinguish all remaining fire.”…
