Worcester artist Sharinna Travieso receives $30,000 award for Bright Futures mural project

When students at Union Hill School return from vacation break at the end of April, they may be looking twice at their brighter surroundings outside.

That’s because one of the outside walls on a building at the school will have been transformed into vibrant, colorful art by Worcester Latinx artist Sharinna Travieso. “When kids come back they’ll be surprised and have a new mural,” Travieso said. She’ll be painting the mural during April vacation week.

With that, Travieso will be off and running with her “Bright Futures: Public Art for Growing Minds” project, which was just awarded a $30,000 grant in March by the New England Foundation for the Arts in Boston as part of its Public Art for Spatial Justice Program…
