The Dogmatics , in their first incarnation, were one of the most tragic stories in Boston rock history. But now, the remaining members have rediscovered their love of music, and the joy of creating it with each other, and there’s a new South Shore edition of the legendary band.
The band of lifelong Dorchester pals formed in 1981, found a ready home for their punky garage-rock in the early-‘80s Boston rock scene at places like The Rat in Kenmore Square, and progressed to opening tours for several national stars like Los Lobos and The Replacements , as well as Boston brethren like The Del Fuegos, Scruffy the Cat and The Lyres. Just as their music was beginning to gain a foothold on radio, tragedy struck.
Dogmatics bassist Paul O’Halloran, 26, was killed in a motorcycle accident on the Southeast Expressway. The rest of the Dogmatics, including Paul’s twin brother, Peter O’Halloran, couldn’t imagine continuing without him…
