What’s open and closed in Massachusetts on Patriots’ Day

Patriots’ Day — a statewide holiday in Massachusetts — falls on April 21 this year, but while many businesses and services will run as usual, others at a state level will be closed or affected.

Patriots’ Day is observed on the third Monday in April, and commemorates the start of the American Revolution, with this year marking the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, which took place on April 19, 1775.

The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) also hosts the annual Boston Marathon on this date, in which tens of thousands of participants make their way from Hopkinton to the finish line on Boylston Street in Boston, cheered on by throngs of spectators up and down the 26.2-mile race route.
