Hartford man sentenced to 12 years for fentanyl trafficking

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Hartford man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday at a court in Worcester, Massachusetts, according to the Massachusetts Department of Justice.

In June 2023, Hector Soto Gonzalez, 44, was on federal supervised release after serving a 10 year sentence in Puerto Rico. Soto Gonzalez was a source of supply for fentanyl to Jose Mercado Aponte, a dealer in Massachusetts. Mercado Aponte traveled to Soto Gonzalez’s home in Hartford multiple times and returned with drugs, according to documents.

In November 2023, Mercado Aponte arranged to sell a kilogram of fentanyl to a cooperating witness, and then called Soto Gonzalez three times. Law enforcement saw Soto Gonzalez leave his residence, put something in his truck and drive to Massachusetts. He was found to have one kilogram of fentanyl…
