Gardener’s Supply Company, based in Burlington, Vt., has filed for bankruptcy in the state of Delaware.
According to its filing, it owes 30 creditors (including $913,482.36 alone to UPS) nearly $5 million. Gardener’s, founded in 1983, has six stores across Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. It had been flying high, according to VT Digger, until the pandemic-era gardening boom came to a screeching halt. VT Digger writes:
“Like many companies in the home and garden sector, Gardener’s saw a dramatic boost in sales as Americans took up gardening during lockdown. The company reported ‘significant sales and growth’ in 2020, 2021 and 2022, with revenues hitting $110.3 million in 2021 and $105.4 million in 2022. The boom benefited the business and employees, whose stock values ‘skyrocketed,’ according to the court filings.”…
