CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Massachusetts is expanding support for thousands of English learners wanting to join the growing workforce.
Federal agencies to end multilingual services, enforce English-only policy
This comes as the Trump administration withholds adult education grants from the state, which is about $13 million, despite the administration’s executive order to make English the national language.
Thousands of Massachusetts residents wanting to learn English and career skills will soon get the opportunity, after the state announced a $10 million investment to expand workforce training and ‘English for speakers of other languages’ or ‘ESOL’ programming. It’s part of the fair share supplemental budget and would help up to 5,000 residents over the next two years.
In a statement, Governor Maura Healey said, “…connecting workers with training programs and English classes will make sure they have the skills that employers are looking for in today’s economy.”…
