Every day, thousands of Massachusetts residents try to access public services online. But what happens when those websites are broken, inaccessible, or simply don’t work for people with disabilities?

Our recent audits at the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR) and the MassHire Department of Career Services show we have more work to do to increase transparency.

OCABR is responsible for licensing professionals and protecting consumers. But when we looked at its website, we found some problems that made the website challenging to navigate – especially for those using assistive technology. OCABR’s website was not fully compliant with web content accessibility guidelines, missing language tags, and broken hyperlinks. Imagine trying to renew a license or file a consumer complaint, only to find broken hyperlinks…
