“It’s one of the best nights in the city” Police in the region ready for annual National Night Out

The Worcester Police Department is gearing up to celebrate National Night Out this week. The event is part of a national and annual crime prevention event aimed at promoting community building and police community partnerships to make neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live. Worcester Police Lieutenant Sean Murtha, “This has gotten bigger every year. It’s now a huge event. We have several partners doing it with us. The city, the fire department, the sheriff’s department, DA’s office, the YMCA. So it’s a lot of different people coming together. It’s one of the best nights in the city in my opinion. Nine food trucks, they’re going to be horses there, a lot of fun and family activities. I think it’s crucial for our mission, you know, to interact with people in a positive way. To gain the trust of the community which we need to do our job of preventing crime.”

Worcester’s event is Tuesday, August 5 from 4pm to 8pm at University Park near Clark University…
