More than a pretty face: Advocacy to strut stuff at Pride Pageant

A beauty queen’s responsibilities aren’t just limited to modeling evening gowns well or proudly representing roots. Anyone who wants to win a pageant has to have a plan to use their platform for good, and that goes double for the annual Pride Worcester Pageant, which will take place Aug. 16.

“It’s not just about the contest, it’s about the community. We’re all going for the same purpose, not just there to model a dress,” said Worcester drag queen Yanalexia Zatish, who is competing this year.

At the intersection of advocacy and high glamour, 10 drag performers and models will walk the runway, show off their talent and most importantly, according to pageant coordinator Jerome Burke, lay out their vision for making the Worcester area a better place for the LGBTQ community…
