WORCESTER, Mass. – A newly completed housing project in Worcester is the first of its kind in the state. The new two-story building at 30 Winfield Street in Worcester marks the Commonwealth’s first publicly funded, low-income modular construction project.

- South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC), along with local and state leaders, celebrated the completion of the state’s first publicly funded, low-income modular construction project, designed to house and support 17 individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness on Monday
- SMOC identified and purchased a vacant lot at 30 Winfield Street in 2018
- SMOC was awarded more than $5 million in EOHLC development funding to assist with the construction, along with $1 million in ARPA funding from the City of Worcester
- Supportive Case Management will be provided to all 17 residents to help with accessing their medical care, behavioral healthcare including recovery supports, and life skills development, according to SMOC
“It’s 18 units of housing,” SMOC Chief of Staff Tania DiDuca said, “17 are assisted and will be prioritized for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.”
