Ten cities statewide, including Fall River, have now received the emergency grant funding that Gov. Maura Healey’s administration made available in the wake of the Gabriel Houseassisted living facility fire.
Of the 10 cities to receive expedited grants from the Massachusetts Municipal Public Safety Staffing Program, Fall River was awarded the most: $1.6 million.
The money will be divided almost evenly between the police and fire departments:
- Police department: $805,419
- Fire department: $805,783
The state grant is awarded every year, but was paid out earlier than usual in response to the July 13 fire at Gabriel House, in which a shorthanded Fall River Fire Department struggled to battle a deadly blaze that threatened about 70 elderly and physically disabled residents…
