Worcester City Manager happy with August city clean up but says more still to be done

The issue of trash is a major point of concern for city leaders in Worcester and it continues to be following the latest City Council meeting.

Earlier in August City Manager Eric Batista announced the residential drop off center would be free to the public for the entire month of August. District 3 City Councilor George Russell said all of those appointments filled up and he’s now asking the City Manager to not only eliminate the appointment system, but consider keeping the drop off center free for city residents moving forward. Russell also said the drop off center should be available every weekday as well as one weekend day.

City Manager Batista said in an interview with Spectrum News 1 he’s happy with the city clean up surge so far but there are still a number of areas of improvement. “We’re very excited to what we’ve seen and there’s going to be more. There’s going to be more activity, more work happening. I think we had a great discussion in the city council floor where we saw the impacts of it and but the areas where we can continue to improve and I think one of the areas is, it’s been so successful that the residential drop that the center has been booked. So now we’re looking at opportunities to we could expand that to provide more folks to be able to drop off any bulk waste items.”…
