In mid August a Massachusetts appeals court upheld a trial court decision which found Worcester overcharged the town of Holden for sewer services and upheld a monetary award which after interest in now around $30 million.
Court documents show Holden residents paid more than $21 million between 2007 and 2022 which experts hired by the town said was about $17 million more than they should have. Worcester can appeal to the State Supreme Court. Worcester City Manager Eric Batista said the city has around 21 days after the appeals court decision to do so. Batista, “It’s something that I have to manage. We’ve got to manage through it. It’s a big number that if the city of Worcester was to, its final judgment was to be responsible for this, it would be a big impact to our residents, a big impact to the day-to-day of our community. And so again, this is something that I don’t think lightly and we have to manage accordingly.”…
