Hudson DPW workers take stand after being constantly ‘mocked, belittled, and blamed’

HUDSON – The Hudson Select Board defended the town’s Department of Public Works employees, who say they have been the targets of public criticism that leave them feeling under attack.

The board was responding in part to a letter from DPW employee Shaye Klotz, who wrote after receiving a “disgusting, hateful attack” via email from an untraceable address. She said “sadly, it’s not an outlier.” Klotz said DPW employees on job sites are “mocked, belittled, and blamed for things out of our control.”

Klotz was joined by more than half a dozen of her co-workers, who waited four hours while the board worked through its long agenda for the evening. She said: “We are not machines. We are not nameless uniforms. We are people. People with families, with hopes, with pride in our work. And we’re asking you, the leaders of our town, to take a stand for us. We’re not asking for special treatment. We’re asking to be treated like human beings.”…
