ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – A Massachusetts man has been convicted of murder in connection with a shooting that occurred in Elmira in May of 2024.
Dante M. Baldwin, 29, was convicted on Monday, Sept. 15, of murder in the second degree (class A felony) and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree (class C felony) by a Chemung County Grand Jury, as stated in a release from the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office.
Previous reports state that Baldwin was charged with the crime in October of 2024, after being found on a superior court warrant in connection with a late-night shooting that occurred outside of a bar on 351 East Washington Ave in Elmira on May 21, 2024, that killed 44-year-old Norman Cherry.

The DA states that Cherry was shot six times during the incident and was taken to Arnot Hospital and later transported to Robert Packer Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
