1 year later, independent investigation into trooper’s death remains ongoing

It has been one year since trooper Enrique Delgado-Garcia died after being injured during a boxing training exercise at the Massachusetts State Police Academy in New Braintree, and an independent investigation remains ongoing.

Before he joined the State Police Academy, Delgado-Garcia worked as a victim witness advocate for the Worcester County District Attorney’s office. In that role, he accompanied victims to court, provided them updates on their cases and offered Spanish translation.

His photo still hangs near the desk where he worked. A spokesperson said his loss is still deeply felt throughout the district attorney’s office.

Because of that connection, District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. recused himself and his office from the investigation of Delgado-Garcia’s death…
