Gunshot victim goes to hospital, gets arrested

WORCESTER — A man who showed up at a hospital with a gunshot wound was arrested Thursday on firearms charges after police connected him to a shots fired incident in the city, authorities said.

Worcester police said officers responded around 5:40 p.m. Thursday to a ShotSpotter alert near Boys & Girls Club Way. At the scene, they found a gun, other evidence, and bullet damage to both a vehicle and an apartment window.

While canvassing the area, officers with the Crime Gun Intelligence Unit encountered a man later identified as 22-year-old Willie Watson of Worcester. Police said he ran through traffic with his hands at his waistband before being detained. A loaded gun was recovered, and investigators determined Watson did not have a license to carry.
