The Worcester City Council voted eight to two Tuesday to prohibit Worcester Police from collaborating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. The vote disallows the Worcester Police Department from taking part in the 287-G Program which allows state and local officers to conduct functions under ICE’s direction and oversight.
During the City Council Meeting on September 30th Worcester City Councilor At-Large Khrystian King said, “While the program is often presented as targeting criminals, we know that in practice that’s rarely the case. Or not always the case. Instead, it separates hardworking families, Mr. Chairman, people who have been contributing members of our neighborhoods and tearing apart communities.”…
