Massachusetts trail $7.5M funding to connect New Bedford to Fall River, Dartmouth, Freetown

In a push to enhance outdoor recreation and connectivity across Massachusetts, the Healey-Driscoll administration has disbursed $7.5 million through the MassTrails grant program to support 50 trail initiatives statewide.

This investment is set to create approximately 60 miles of new pathways, fostering safer access to nature and promoting healthier lifestyles for residents.

Among the beneficiaries are five SouthCoast municipalities—Dartmouth, Fall River, Freetown, New Bedford, and Westport—which have collectively secured $390,625 to advance local trail developments. These funds underscore a commitment to bridging gaps in regional networks and bolstering community ties to the environment.
